GDS helps award-winning artist to create a revolutionary LCD artwork

Award-winning Italian artist Davide Coltro has enlisted the help of Global Display Solutions (GDS), market leader in the design and manufacture of industrial displays, to realise a revolutionary technological painting. This first of its kind painting is an original digital artwork which has substituted the canvas for an LCD screen, enabling the artist to update the picture inside the frame on a daily basis using a complex remote system. Davide Coltro selected GDS to assist in this unique project after being impressed by the size of GDS's operation and the Company's manufacturing expertise and experience.

GDS has fitted the 'painting' with an intricate technological system which uses GPRS and PC connections to transfer images from the artist's study directly into the frame. This patented system utilizes GDS's 19" industrial screen to display the different paintings. This display was selected due to its perfect optical performance which allows a wide viewing angle and real colours. The robustness of this display also means that it works 24 hours a day.

This innovative artwork was introduced to the industry during an exhibition at Vulcano Contemporary Art Gallery in Naples last spring. Three further public presentations are planned for the autumn, one at the Arteverona Exhibition and two at prestigious Italian galleries, Gas Gallery in Turin and La Giarina in Verona, where several important critics will be given the opportunity to view the piece. The painting can be easily fixed onto any wall (similar to a plasma screen TV), with the owner having to simply connect a power cord. Once the cord is connected the screen will display a different painting every day, providing unlimited canvases and providing the owner with the benefit of purchasing more than one piece of art work!

Marco Cohen, Sales and Marketing Manager at GDS comments: "It is a real honour to be asked to contribute to such an exciting project. In a sense, the artist has now become the director of his own broadcast by distributing his work in real time to the painting. It is extremely satisfying to know that GDS has provided Davide with the base to create the art of the future, and we are very flattered that he chose a GDS display to do so. This alliance is very complementary to GDS's innovative leadership in the displays industry and we are thrilled to be associated with Davide's artistic milestone."
